Walgreens Rumor

Some of you may have already heard this sad rumor floating around the internet. Apparently, Walgreens will be ending their "EasySaver" program in April. That is the bad news...however, the good news is that they will be replacing it with another program. At least that is what the rumor says...

Let's hope that it is a program similar to CVS....if you have a CVS near you and don't take advantage of all of their great offers, shame on you!! They typically have some great deals and "moneymakers." Here is a link on CVS 101.

Double Coupons at K Mart Week...

I've had several people ask me about K Mart's Double Coupon deal that I posted about that is going on this week at many K-Mart locations. They are doubling coupons up to $2.00 ($4.00 off) which is a great deal!!

For a full list of the participating stores, check out Common Sense with Money's list here. It looks like those of you in South Carolina have quite a few stores participating; our local store is not participating, however, there are quite a few locations in Wisconsin that are ( Superior, Kenosha, La Crosse, Mauston, Medford, Menomonie, Portage, Rice Lake, Ripon, Janesville, Stevens Point, and Waupaca, as well as Escanaba, MI). Hopefully, they'll offer it again in Iron Mountain, MI sometime soon.

Target is another one of those great stores that allows you to use one of their store coupons with a manufacturers coupon. Plus, they take internet coupons (if you haven't noticed yet, not every store will accept internet coupons).

Hope you find some other great deals. I love walking along the ends of the aisles at my Target...especially in the food section. I have often found food items on clearance that I have been able to combine with coupons to get for free or almost free. Also, if you forget to print off your Target store coupons from home, you can now print them off at the kiosk in the front of most Target stores.

Coupons: Fact or Fiction?

"We don't purchase the items that we always see coupons for. Coupons are always for processed foods." - FICTION!!

There are coupons available for a wide range of grocery items - not just processed foods!! I was surprised when I started collecting coupons, what kind of coupons are out there. You can find coupons for milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, frozen vegetables, cereal, peanut butter, condiments, coffee, tea, pasta, juice, etc. I have even e-mailed several produce companies, and they have been happy to send me coupons for their fresh produce!

Of course, one of the largest areas of coupon savings for me, are in household items and toiletries. In fact, there are several kinds of items that I rarely pay anything for because of coupons (toothpaste, shampoo, air fresheners, lip stick, eyeliner, and more). Read my post on Walgreens 101 to find out how I do this. One statistic shows that 47% of coupons are for non-food items.

"It is cheaper to buy the store brands/use my store discount card. Coupons are just for the expensive items." - FICTION!!

While smart shoppers should always take into account the price of a store brand item when purchasing a name-brand item, many times you can find a name brand item on sale, which brings its' price with a coupon much cheaper than the store brand. And, don't forget - you can use coupons on top of the savings that your store discount card offers...always double up on the store deals/manufacturers coupons.

Keep in mind, however, that you are not saving money simply by using a coupon...it is only saving money if it is something that you were already needing/planning on purchasing, and if it is the best priced item for the product you are purchasing. For example, just because you have a coupon for $1.00 off Del Monte fruit cups, it might still be $ .50-$1.00 cheaper to purchase a store brand without a coupon. Always compare prices!!

"It doesn't make sense to purchase a $2.50 newspaper to save $ .50-$1.00." - FICTION!!

This is one myth that I used to believe...that I would never be able to make back the price of the newspaper with the few coupons that I would use. However, I soon found this to be false. Once I started strategically shopping - planning a menu and stacking the store sales and coupons with the manufacturers coupons - I found that I was saving far more than the $2.50 cost of the newspaper. In fact, now I sometimes will purchase more than one paper! 82% of coupons issued are in the Sunday paper which equals almost $261 billion potential coupon savings available.

Some of you even shop at stores that double and triple coupons (I'm fighting back feelings of jealousy right now!!) - you really have access to some great coupon savings!! One statistic shows that regular coupon users save an average of 11.5% off their total shopping bill!

Random Coupon Facts:

Only 15% of shoppers use coupons religiously.

Every year, shoppers save almost $3 billion with grocery coupons, however, $315 billion worth of grocery coupons are thrown away.

Fewer than 2% of coupons are used.

74% of households earning more than $75,000 a year use grocery coupons.

Over 80% of households earning between $50,000 and $75,000 a year report using coupons to grocery shop.

The lowest level of coupon use is in the $25,000-$50,000 annual income bracket!!!

Free Stuff for Kids This Weekend and Next!

First of all, Dr. Seuss is having a special storytime at Target this weekend. There will be special activities and giveaways for the kids. Make sure to call your local Target to verify the time.

Also, Lowe's has free workshops for kids on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. This Saturday they are making a race car. The workshops are free, but you must register online. In addition to the child's project, they will also get to take home an apron and an achievement pin.

Home Depot also has great kids activities...the first Saturday of the month they have a workshop for kids from 9am-12pm. March 7th they will offer the choice of a wooden trinket box or a raceway.

My Favorite Printable Coupon...

This is hands down one of my favorite printable coupons!! Johnson's Buddies Soaps are so great...they are a kid sized bar of soap that is wrapped in a mesh material so it is easy for the kiddos to wash themselves...something this busy mom loves (plus, it smells SO good!). They are also great for washing a baby! But, the best part is, frequently Johnson & Johnson will put out these great printable coupons for $1.00 off any Buddies product or $2.00 off any Buddies product. These soaps are only $1.00 at Walmart, which means you can get them for free or even "earn" $1.00 on them!! This is one of the things that I have "stockpiled" since I have gotten so many for free.
